Activity Boxes

Activity barrels focus on providing materials and instructions on how to complete the chosen activity. These barrels are great for exploring subject matters and themes relavent to current areas of learning by incorporating a creative activity using salvaged materials. Information sheets included in the barrels will cover creative re-use, environmental information, as well as an Activity Sheet outlining how to complete the barrel’s activity with the materials provided.

PRINTING AND STAMPING
Experience basic printing techniques using a range of re-purposed materials. Use the included materials to make your own custom printing blocks and stamps. See how they stamp, adjust your design, and reuse! Or build patterns by combining printing blocks and stamps with different colours. *Please note, printing medium (paint/ ink) not included in barrel.

COLLAGE
Combine humble, unusual materials and transform them into wonderful collages. Create textured and dimensional illustrations and designs, build layers to create depth, use the qualities of different materials to add detail and manipulate unusual shapes to visually represent meaningful symbols, subjects and themes. Revalue “waste” by using discards and offcuts to create valuable pieces of art! Suitable for childcare to secondary school. Small and medium sizes.

CONSTRUCTION
Design and build gravity defying structures to test the limits of what’s possible! Join and connect a range of different materials to build structures to stand strong. Construct whimsical sculptures or complex arrangements, model houses and buildings or time saving machinery. Experiment with different materials to find out what makes a solid foundation and how best to build structural framework to ensue your construction stands up! Suitable for childcare to secondary school.

WEAVING
Use fabrics, textiles, plastics, paper and card to create woven pieces of art to use on cards, clothing, cushions... anything! Weaving adds colour and texture and is a great low tech joining method, that excercises motor skills and helps develop focus and attention. Weave pre-punched holey strips or create your own loom. Co-ordinate colours and textures to make woven wall hangings and small mats. But be careful! Weaving is very addictive!

SOFT SCULPTURE
Manipulate soft materials to create unique sculptural pieces including small toys, pillows or decorations. Sew, tie, stuff and thread textiles, fabrics, foams and soft materials to make characters to tell stories with, pillows to add comfort to quiet spaces and reading nooks and lightweight hangings and plush decorations.
